Battle of Rhode Island – Sunset Salute at Butts Hill Fort

Around sunset on Friday, August 29th, on the hallowed grounds of Butts Hill Fort, Portsmouth, BoRIA and the BHFRC will pay tribute to all the participants of the Battle of Rhode Island which took place on August 29th, 1778.

In this simple and solemn ceremony, Portsmouth Town Historian Jim Garman will speak briefly followed by a laying of a wreath at the 1923 stone marker at the entrance to the fort. Reenactors representing the various troops who were in the battle will march into the fort and deliver a musket volley in honor of those who participated and those who gave their lives.
