2022 Annual Meeting Recap

Our recent HistWick annual meeting at Smith’s Castle was an outstanding success. More than 100 people attended to hear town updates; honor Episcopal Bishop Knisely and Linda Piedra for their leadership in preserving Wickford’s historic Narragansett Church (property of the Rhode Island Episcopal Diocese) and a 1795 home on Main Street; and learn about the restoration of the historic Butts Hill Fort in Portsmouth.

At the meeting Town Manager Ralph Mollis made a most exciting announcement: Wickford won the USA Today competition for Best Historic Small Town in the nation! We won because not only is Wickford a truly amazing town, but one with a strong community spirit in which so many of us voted in this competition! So if you voted once or dozens of times, thank you!

The meeting also presented an opportunity to introduce the Lewis family who live on Main Street. As a result of the war, their Ukrainian family is settling in North Kingstown. Since they receive no state or federal funding, A GoFundMe site has been set up to support their efforts. If you’d like to help go to: https://gofund.me/07e48a39
